Building What Has Never Been Built: Why KETASE Is Proud to Co-Pioneer a New Moment for Malawian Culture

There is something uniquely exciting about being young and building in a place that is still defining what its creative industries can become. At KETASE, much of our own journey has been shaped by that reality; we have grown by taking ideas seriously, by working with people who are willing to challenge what already exists, and by constantly asking how creativity, technology and business can come together to create things that feel relevant to the Malawi we are becoming. It is also why we have come to appreciate that the most meaningful opportunities are not always the ones where KETASE gets to stand alone, but the ones where we get to stand alongside another ambitious Malawian enterprise and contribute to something that neither of us could create in quite the same way on our own.

That is what makes our partnership with The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA particularly meaningful. The Sunday Soirée has spent the past few years creating spaces where music, food, art, fashion, community and experience intersect, and The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA represents an exciting evolution of that thinking. Bringing together an orchestra, vocalists, DJs, house and afro-house within one carefully considered experience is not simply another addition to Malawi's event calendar; it is an attempt to create a new kind of cultural experience, one that asks what happens when different sounds, disciplines and audiences are given the opportunity to exist together in a way that has not been done here before.

For us, the significance lies not only in the fact that The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA is a first of its kind, but in what it represents about the direction of our culture. Malawi has never been short of talent, creativity or ideas, but the next chapter of our creative economy will require more than individual talent; it will require young enterprises, creatives, brands and cultural platforms to recognise that we become stronger when we build together. Partnerships like this allow different strengths to meet, and when that happens, an idea can move beyond being simply a good idea and become something people can experience, participate in and eventually build upon.

There is also something deeply encouraging about seeing youthful Malawian enterprises take the responsibility of creating the experiences they want to see in their own country. Building businesses here is not always straightforward, and creating something ambitious often means believing in the possibility of an audience, a market or a cultural shift before there is any guarantee that it exists. We understand that journey ourselves, which is why we have such respect for what The Sunday Soirée is attempting with The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA. It is the kind of ambition that reminds us that our creative industries do not have to wait for someone else to define their ceiling.

Our role in this partnership is therefore not simply to support an event, but to help bring a vision to life alongside the people who conceived it. We come into the partnership with our experience across creative, digital and experiential work, but we also come with the understanding that the best work happens when expertise serves an idea rather than becoming the idea itself. The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA belongs to a much larger ecosystem of artists, musicians, producers, designers, vendors, audiences and cultural entrepreneurs, and our contribution is one part of a collective effort to create an experience that can stand as a reflection of what is possible when Malawi chooses to be ambitious about its culture.

Perhaps that is why being part of a first of its kind feels less like a milestone and more like a responsibility. The value of pioneering something is not simply that you get to say you were there first; it is that your decision to go first can make it easier for someone else to go further. We want The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA to be remembered not only as an extraordinary experience, but as another piece of evidence that Malawian culture can carry ambition, that our creative economy can produce experiences worth talking about, and that the future of our industries can be shaped by the people who are willing to build them today.

We are proud to partner with The Sunday Soirée because this is the kind of work we believe in at KETASE: work that brings people together, work that gives ideas room to become real, and work that contributes to a bigger story than any one organisation can tell on its own. The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA gives us the opportunity to co-pioneer something new for the culture, but more importantly, it gives us the opportunity to participate in a growing movement of young Malawian enterprises that are choosing collaboration over isolation and ambition over limitation.

On 30 August, at the BICC Amphitheatre, we will not simply be showing up for another event. We will be showing up for an idea, for the people willing to build it, and for the culture that gives all of us a reason to keep creating. The Sunday Soirée - AU-RCHEST-RA is a first of its kind, but we hope it will not be the last; because the most exciting part of pioneering is not getting to the beginning of something, but helping create a future where there are many more beginnings to come.
